Being productive while teleworking: “It’s always fun to do the impossible”

In times of pandemic, uncertainty and fear, our personal and professional lives have become one, to adapt to this social discomfort. Ventask made the impossible possible.

As a Call Center coordinator, it seemed utopian to me to telework given the nature, demands and commitment of our duties. But March arrived and that was our reality.

The symbiosis between family and work created an alliance where barriers such as schedules and dress code took a back seat. Answering calls, meetings, achieving goals and supporting the family, in the same physical space, has become our sweet reality.

With this reality in mind, I share five tips that allow you to guarantee productivity when teleworking:

1 Maintain the routine

It is essential to maintain a routine before leaving home. Although the dress code is no longer a concern, staying in pajamas is not an option. Maintaining habits and routines, maintaining energy is a way to keep our mind more active. In this way, we generate a feeling of greater control over our activities and a greater ability to truly relax and rest at the end of the day.

2 Create a workspace

It is essential to create an adequate work space. This means that it will preferably have natural light, be comfortable and located relatively far from television noise. Whenever possible, ideally you should be isolated from other people. Playing calm music in the background can be a solution to maintain focus and productivity.

3 Set a schedule and take strategic breaks

One of the great advantages of teleworking is the flexibility of schedules. But imagine that you need to deal with a personal matter that will take up 3 hours of one morning. Discipline yourself to make up for this time in the previous days, dedicating yourself to work for another hour a day.

Maintain the habit of taking short breaks to hydrate or eat something, go to the balcony or garden for 5 minutes, just as you would do during your breaks at work.

4 Adjust dynamics at home with children

If you have children in your care while you are teleworking, set some rules, such as:

  • Establish schedules with them;
  • Maintain their routines, just as you maintain yours;
  • Always eat meals at the same times;
  • Limit the use of electronic devices;
  • Try doing different activities with them every day. You can even create an elaborate calendar with them with ideas for each day of the week.

5 Set goals and celebrate results

Setting daily goals is important to help you focus. Set realistic goals and write them down. But just as important as defining objectives is highlighting the results already achieved. Having the perception of achieved objectives is equally or even more important, as it can act as a trigger to give you even more motivation.

Returning to our teamwork at Ventask, our work methodologies were the same, but adapted to a digital reality. We changed face-to-face meetings to the famous call’s, where virtual brainstorming began to have a prominent place, open discussions in order to create new ideas adapted to our new world of work.

The truth is that we didn’t move away in times of social confinement, we discovered skills that were an asset to the entire team. As Walt Disney said, “It’s always fun to do the impossible.”
